We are delighted to announce that the Grade II listed Hodge House building in Cardiff city centre has won this year’s Wales Property Award for Workplace Design of the Year.

Owned by Legal and General, the iconic eight-storey building has been restyled by architectural firm Stride Treglown with our team as Principle Contractor for the £9 million refurbishment, working alongside JLL, Hoare Lea and Currie & Brown.

The objective of the 110,000 sq. ft project was to secure the future vitality of the historic building. The refurbishment now reveals the building’s rich and varied history, whilst providing occupiers with contemporary office space and facilities to encourage collaboration and flexibility. The full results can be seen here.

The stand out building, elegant delivery shaped to the needs of modern occupiers, plus a fantastic city-centre location has drawn lots of interest into the newly designed space with key lettings having already taken place.

By winning this award is a tremendous achievement for our team and a great acknowledgement of such a landmark project in South Wales. After what has been a very challenging year, we look forward to celebrating this success.

The Workplace Design category was looking for the most impressive refurbishment or fit-out of a workplace interior.

The judges were impressed by the scope of the project and the improved appearance of a significant building on St Mary’s Street. “Hodge House was transformed in this £9 million upgrade which brought back some of its original decorative features, removed its suspended ceilings, provided facilities for active travel and introduced a studio and roof terrace.”

The Wales Property Awards are organised by Insider Media and celebrate the achievements of the property and construction sector in the year to March 2020.
