Value

Area

6,378 sqft

The Brief

Create a fit-for-purpose facility that fully supported Welsh Ambulance Service’s dynamic training and development programme.

The Solution

Paramount was contracted by landlord Jarrington Properties on behalf of its client Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust for a multi-purpose staff training centre at Matrix House in Swansea.

The project comprised both subdivision of the space for the landlord and CAT B fit out to include reception, offices, canteen, and training facilities for Welsh Ambulance Service. Two years previously, Paramount had worked with Jarrington Properties in stripping out the space to CAT A standard.

From observation learning and distant learning to classroom style training and immersive training, various working environments have been created to accommodate each training type.

Operable walls have been installed between two of the training rooms for complete flexibility in accommodating larger quantities of staff for training. With an impressive 56dB acoustic rating, both rooms can be occupied at the same time without any interruption between them.

There was also an extensive package of mechanical and electrical works throughout the ground floor, plus a special air conditioning system installed for training purposes that could replicate conditions for emergency services staff attending situations in extreme heat, for example.

And the large canteen with separate tea point provides adequate breakout space for staff to relax, unwind and socialise.

Despite Covid-19 lockdown and the expected challenges, the facility was completed within the timeframe and within budget.

What the
client had
to say

“I would like to thank both Paramount and our landlord for co-ordinating the development of a modern training facility that delivers state of the art teaching to our students and existing front line operational staff. It has been immensely satisfying how this facility has been transformed and how the training team have utilised every space to be innovative and leading in the technology that has been utilised. I would also like to thank the Project Team for their effort and drive in delivering this project and the ongoing support of the organisation in recognising the need to invest in our Estate to enable staff to be the best they can be in serving their communities”
