SONY appointed us to use our office design skills and incorporate the principles of thoughtful design into their innovation centre. The centre is essentially a room with the purpose of showing off the best that SONY Pencoed Technology Centre has to offer. Previously, the room was rarely used with only a handful of tours being completed each year.
SONY wanted to create an area that could effectively showcase their dedication to innovation as well as educating users on their latest technology. This space needed to have the feel of a conference room for talks and events. It also needed to be a thought-provoking environment in which visitors could feel inspired. It was essential that the centre appealed to a wide audience with an emphasis on stimulating the minds of both school children and journalists alike.
We created a space that is both exciting and innovative with specific areas for displays and a presentation area for both schools and the media.
Behind the designs
Bespoke “exploded-view” graphics of SONY products show the components that go into making them. This allows visitors to see the technology that lies behind the design.
Tailor-made media wall
One of the key features of the design is a bespoke display and media wall. This continues the blueprint style design with individual spaces for SONY cameras and timeline products.
Futuristic & functional
It was important for us to highlight and express SONY’s commitment to technology and innovation in a way that would inspire visitors. The end result is a room that has a futuristic feel to effectively demonstrate how SONY is at the cutting-edge of their field.
Functionality was also essential, which is why the media wall has a built-in hidden storage solution to store coats and factory tour jackets. This keeps the space looking presentable and uncluttered for high-profile guests.
A combination of clever storage, thoughtful design and innovative technology means that a space that was once used just three times a year is now used and enjoyed every day.
