As part of a program to improve their offices across the UK, ITV asked us to manage the fit out of their Birmingham site. Having worked with them on the ITV offices in Cardiff Bay and ITV West Country News in Bristol, we had an understanding of what they wanted to achieve.
The project included the design, programming and internal refurbishment of both broadcast and non-technical areas on the same floor. Each section had its own specific elements that needed to be taken into consideration.
The works were meticulously planned to be completed over a period of 9 phases as it was critical that there was no business interruption resulting in ITV remaining fully operational throughout the entire duration.
The cabling and sound-proofing of the central apparatus room (CAR), production rooms, editing room and voice-over booth had to be taken into account.
Non-technical areas included news and traffic, sales, meeting rooms, dressing rooms, copy and print area, tea point, and breakout space.
Specific storage solutions included roller racking for the tape library and lockers for staff following the same design style as those in Cardiff and the West Country.
A vital aspect of this office fit-out project was minimising any disruption to staff, especially during urgent broadcasts.
With constant communication between Paramount’s and ITV’s project management teams, the works were meticulously planned to be completed over a period of 9 phases. This avoided business interruption, allowing ITV to remain fully operational throughout the project.
Flexibility was fundamental to the smooth running of the fit out, working around any live broadcasts as well as factoring in all variations from the original concept that factored into the final design.
The previous positive experience of working closely with the ITV News’ management team was a deciding factor in our continued use of Paramount on this key project. They focused on ensuring the site delivered facilities of the highest quality, helping us to adopt a common theme, which is now present at all the News hub sites. This was achieved in particularly challenging circumstances and Paramount successfully minimised disruption to the various ITV teams that remained working on site throughout the programme. We are pleased that the excellent relationship fostered with Paramount on a number of projects has continued to be a success.
