OFFICE FOR NATIONAL STATISTICS’ OFFICE FIT OUT

ONS appointed us to undertake the construction and fit out of their new reception & Data Science Campus in Newport.

Working with VINCI Facilities, the key objectives were the delivery of a high-quality space to serve the needs of in-house staff and data scientists as well as creating an inspiring workplace facility.

The project scope encompassed the design development and construction of a new reception facility with increased security levels, an open-plan office space for data scientists, client meeting rooms, breakout facilities and external remodelling works.

a punctual, colourful, award-winning project

Time was of the essence for this office fit-out project. ONS needed the Data Science Campus to be completed in time for an event that was to be held there. Despite the tight deadline, the teams at Paramount and VINCI Facilities not only completed the project on time but in the face of some less-than-ideal conditions.

The roof was stripped off during a harsh winter, which meant that all drainage and rainwater was safely diverted. New areas of roof covering were constructed and seamlessly integrated with the existing building.

A sedum grass living roof was installed, as well as curved steel staircases and curtain-glazed façade, and the lighting and heating were linked to the site’s Building Energy Management System (BEMS). Bespoke joinery was also created for the teapoints with a concrete finish kitchen worktop and combined wash/dry Dyson taps in the washrooms.

However, one particular feature stands out. Dichroic glass was installed on the windows of the upper floors; the first time this product had been used in the UK. The striking iridescent effect is created by differing light levels changing the colour of the dichroic film on the glass.

The project also won the GO Infrastructure Project of the Year Award at the GO Awards Wales 2017/18.
