2015 was a great year for us, and we’ve already looked back the favourite office design and fit-out projects of Helen and Ceri and Jon and Gareth from our Design Team. Aside from the projects that we’ve worked on, we thought we ought to celebrate our other achievements too, from fundraising to awards and accolades. We couldn’t be more grateful for each and every one of the opportunities that came our way last year, so here’s our highlight reel:
It was a relatively quiet year for us in terms of fundraising, we donated a total of £450 for a selection of charities across the year, including George Thomas Hospice, Meningitis Now and Homestart.
Continuing our long-standing relationship with Macmillan Cancer Support, the staff at Paramount raised £950 made up of contributions from payroll, a rugby sweep for the World Cup, a raffle and tuck-shop. Andrew Roberts kindly agreed to boost the Macmillan figure with a £1,500 donation, bringing the overall total to £2,450. Here’s to an equally charitable 2016.
Designers of the future
We teamed up with the University of South Wales’ Interior Design department to mentor the aspiring designers of the future throughout their end-of-year ‘self-choice’ projects. Students were given the opportunity to design a space within the Bonded Warehouse in Cardiff Bay. With project ideas ranging from food and drink merchants and breweries, to well-being centres and sensory experiences, it was wonderful to see the creativity flowing. We had a great time mentoring the students and look forward to seeing what’s in store for these aspiring designers in 2016 and beyond!
Awards & accolades
It’s always rewarding to see clients enjoying our office designs, but it’s also great to have our hard work recognised by awarding bodies. The office design and fit out of the Life Sciences Hub Wales was shortlisted in the National FIS awards and won Best Fit Out of a Workplace in South West England, Thames Valley and South Wales at the annual British Council for Offices’ regional property sector awards. Here’s hoping that we can enjoy more recognition in 2016.
Our very own ‘aging bull’
Aside from our own charitable activity, our Commercial Director, John Williams took things a step further and kept himself more than busy with several charity events throughout the year. John raised over £10K for Macmillan Cancer Support this year with his white-collar boxing. The self-titled “Aging Bull” even competed in fights against opponents who were 21 years younger than him. You’d hope that John would take a well-deserved break in 2016, but watch this space…
Surf life saving
There must be something in the name, because our other Jon also had an impressive year in terms of fundraising. Jon Foster, our Design Manager, competed in the Welsh and GB Surf Life Saving pool and ocean competitions last year and completed the 2.4 miles Wales Swim. He started 2016 off with a splash in the Barry Island New Year’s Day Swim and throughout the year will be taking part in the World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff, the Wales Swim, a run-swim-run event in North Wales and a few other things! So energetic as ever!
2015 saw the start of our Thought Leadership events. We wanted to bring business owners and senior directors together for an opportunity to discuss best practice and challenge the future of the workplace. We invited headlining keynote speakers from within the industry to speak at the events, and they were well received if we do say so ourselves. Our first Thought Leadership event took place in January and focused on the importance of knowledge workers and the evolution of the workplace. Following the success of the first session, our second Thought Leadership event took place in June and focused on the evolution of worker performance and the importance of communication in the workplace.
We’re more than proud of the reaction we’ve had to these events and look forward to the possibility of more to come.
Searching for the best of the best
We partnered up with Wales Online in our quest to find the best office view. We saw some incredible views from all across Wales and were delighted to see so many people getting involved.
To end the year with one last hurrah, we organised a competition with Enigma Lighting to find the best festive office. From the Buddy-the-Elf-themed office to giant gingerbread men, we received some impressive entries. It was a nice to end the year with some simple fun that showed just how much people can enjoy the office in the right atmosphere.
2015 will be a difficult year to top, but here’s hoping that 2016 is every bit as successful!
